Ensuring Data Integrity

We keep a close watch on who’s taking our surveys.

Survey selection and frequency of participation are areas of concern when undertaking internet-based surveys. We do not allow respondents to take a survey as many times as they wish or choose the subject of the survey as both of these activities can distort results.

  • Our surveys are password protected so that respondents can only take the survey once
  • Respondents cannot choose the subject of the surveys in which they participate (although they may, of course, choose not to take a particular survey)

We also utilize a variety of different techniques for monitoring and limiting fraudulent respondents through active cleaning/checking of data. These techniques include:

  • Identifying and removing straight-lining answers
  • Identifying and removing pattern answers
  • Identifying and removing non-open end responders
  • Identifying and removing “speeders”
  • Utilizing internal consistency questions

These practices substantially reduce data errors that can be associated with online surveys.
